More than an activity
As people age, the environments around them have a powerful effect on health, connection, and quality of life. We see nature not as an occasional outing, but as an essential part of daily living: a source of movement, calm, memory, purpose, and community.
That vision asks for more than individual moments outdoors. It calls for families, caregivers, activity leaders, and senior communities to create routines, spaces, and systems where older adults can flourish alongside the natural world.
Our goals
- Reduce environmental costs and impacts.
Share practical approaches that use resources wisely and help communities make sustainable living attainable. - Improve health and wellness.
Make nature based connection a natural, accessible part of everyday life for older adults. - Get every senior in nature.
Build the awareness, tools, and partnerships needed to ensure that every older adult can experience nature in a meaningful way.
From care to connection
Founder Xia Lowery began working with older adults at age fifteen, first serving meals and listening to the stories, needs, and memories shared around the table. In an activity assistant role, she found her purpose in everyday moments: going outside, bringing nature in through crafts and movement, helping someone open their mail, or simply being there for a conversation.
During COVID 19, she witnessed how deeply isolation affected residents and how much compassionate one on one care mattered. Later, as an in home caregiver, she continued to see the value of connection, time outdoors, and attention to the small things that make a day meaningful. After studying environmental science and building a career in sustainability and wellbeing, she kept returning to those experiences. Seniors in Nature grew from that intersection: a belief that every older adult deserves access to nature, dignity, and joy.
